Professor Andrew Moore

Andrew Moore’s research interests include dynamic, full-field optical instrumentation and its application to scientific and engineering measurement. Current projects include: optical instrumentation to provide fundamental understanding and control for additive manufacturing and welding processes; sub-surface measurements at THz frequencies; and full-field measurements of vibration and power flow for quality assurance. Previous research has resulted in a more economical and environmentally-friendly welding process with no compromise to the final weld quality providing a cost saving in shield gas usage of ~£300k per annum at one BAE Systems site; a new family of CMM-mounted optical probes that are being commercialised by Renishaw (based on patented collaborative research) that will be rolled-out world-wide to their aerospace, automotive and pharmaceutical manufacturing customers. He is an AWE William Penney Fellow (2006 – 2015).
