Sci-Tech Tour

Dr Ian Ashton gave a tour of the University of Liverpool Additive Manufacturing facilities to a delegation from Sci-Tech Daresbury, a Science and Technology Facilities Council funded research innovation campus based in Cheshire.

This was an initial meeting to open up the possibilities of industrial/academic collaborations.

Dr Chris Sutcliffe

Dr Chris Sutcliffe (Liverpool University) presented two talks at ESVOT (European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics & Traumatology) 2016, regarding the use of AM technologies in veterinary applications:

TECHNIQUES IN CLINICAL RESEARCH - Finite element analysis for dummies

INNOVATIONS - ā€˜3-D printingā€™ in metal

Match made inā€¦ CIM-Laser Meetingā€¦

Professor Phil Prangnell and Dr Yingtao Tian (Manchester University) have, in conjunction with AWE, been exploring material characterisation. Experiments in a number of laser additively manufactured samples were carried out with very promising results.Ā  They are hoping that further discussions may lead to the possibility of a new project in the near future.

360Ā° Virtual Open Day at Cranfield University

The laser lab at Cranfield University will now be included into the interactive map of the University campus with 360Ā° pictures of the laser lab and videos showing the lasers in operation.Ā  This virtual open day platform will enable prospective students and companies to explore the laboratory and see examples of laser processing.

Heriot-Watt PhD students wins top student award at LPM 2016

Amiel Lopes, a Heriot-Watt PhD student working in the CIM-Laser micro-processing theme, who was attending his first international conference, scooped the Outstanding Student Paper Award at the 17th International Symposium on Laser Precision Microfabrication held in Xi'an, China.

Congratulations Amiel!

LPM 2018 comes to Edinburgh!

2018 will see the 19th Internation Symposium on Laser Precision Microfabrication coming to Edinburgh!

Whilst attending LPM2016, Professor Duncan Hand, Director of CIM-Laser, pitched to hold this internationally renowned conference here at Heriot-Watt University in 2 years time and of course, was successful.

Well done and we look forward to welcoming all attendees in 2018!

National Strategy Kick-off Meeting held at MTC

This initial ā€œkick-offā€ Workshop, held at the Manufacturing Technology Centre was attended by nearly 50 members of the Strategic Working Group drawn from industry, academia and government agencies.

A very productive day leading to the formation of sub-groups tasked with taking the next steps in the Strategic Plan aimed at stimulating growth in industrial laser-based production technologies across diverse sectors in UK manufacturing industry.

International Year of Light 2015

CIM-Laser was closely engaged in supporting events throughout the International Year of Light ā€“ 2015, recognising the importance of raising global awareness about how light-based technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health.
